Magic The Gathering World Championships 2009

Magic The Gathering is one of the oldest collectible card games in the world. It had become so popular that it has got its own championship world competition every year which attracted thousands of world class Magic players to gather and fight for glory. Despite the business ambition and the ugly money making game behind the scene, undoubtedly Magic The Gathering is one of the most fun and sophisticated table game ever created by human. In 2009, being a Hong Kong guy, I'm proud of the fact that the World Team Championship of this year's Magic Tournament belongs to a team from China. They are Bo Li, Wu Tong and Zhiyang Zhang. This again confirmed the very fact that Chinese are the most intelligent tribe on earth. (Whether you like it or not.) And the World Champion of 2009 MTG is Andre Coimbra. The tournament has ended in Rome lately, but the passion of Magic remains. And how did these guys get to the point of winning the World Championship? Everyone has something he likes to do, but being so good at what we like to the extent that gains the world champion title is another thing. It definitely requires exceptional ambition and determination to achieve something like that. In the world MTG game, participants must prepare for at least three different formats. Not to mention the country representatives who have extra to prepare for. All these happen within four days which can be a torture for the faint hearted. I think that all the players who participated in the World game and endured it graciously deserve respects. On Day one of the tournament, standard playing is used. In this game play, the Jund deck is the most remarkable one. It is the most frequently used deck and it has a outstanding winning rate of around 53%. Although according to statistics Jund was not the most accurate deck, but the amount of matches that people won using Jund is jaw-dropping. It was 729 matches! And the highest winning ratio deck was the Turbo-Fog Deck which was not used by many people. It only happened less than 20 times which were all from 2 players. Overall, we considered the Green-White Aggro the best deck according to the winning percentage and the number of match that it won. It won 48 matches and had the winning percentage of over 57%. However, this may not be absolute because there were far too many players using the Jund deck.
